The Soviet Russian Prisoner Ship Indigirka Sinks Off Hokkaido, Japan December 13, 1939 The Ship's Past As Commercial Quaker, An American Rum Runner

Authors:

Description

The Soviet ship Indigirka was trapped in a violent snowstorm off the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. On December 13, 1939 she wrecked with the loss of 741 lives. The majority of deaths were prisoners who were in transit from Vladivostok to Magadan. Others who perished were crewmembers, their wives and children. The wreck site was between Kamchatka Peninsula and Vladivostok. My research has uncovered facts about Indigirka, which was sold to the Soviets in early 1939.
